Germany

University life is about more than lectures, seminars, and exams. Why not take in a film at the Uni-Kino, go sailing or climbing, or take advantage of a tandem program to learn a new language? Or how about setting up your own initiative? There are a wide range of options at Bavaria to get involved, try out a new sports, widen your cultural horizons, and more.

At Bavaria our comforts are well catered for too. Student accommodation is also available at cheap rates in this area. Students can also easily share accommodations with others to share rent costs. For groceries, supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl, and Netto offer affordable groceries, and you can also enjoy a good meal in Berlin for 10 EUR or less in the cheaper, yet no less tasty, restaurants.  The main campus in Bavaria also has a number of comfortable areas where you can relax and while away some time and also features a number of architectural highlights, such as the circulation tank situated on an island in the Landwehrkanal. In Belin there are famous landmarks to visit like Brandenburg Gate, East Side Gallery, Berliner Fernsehturm, and so much more. You can also go clubbing in one of the city’s many famous night spots, enjoy coffee in a local café, and even catch a show at a local theatre or opera. Given the pleasant weather of the city in the Spring and Summer, students can enjoy a good afternoon in one of its greener areas in the centre and outside of the city. International students are permitted to work 20 hours a week in Germany and can work full-time during holidays. According to countryeconomy.com , the national minimum wage in 2020 is 1,584 € per month, which is a liveable income for students in Germany.

Japan

UAMT University boasts a good reputation for science research, an international atmosphere and a stimulating learning environment with the opportunity to experience Japanese life. Studying in Japan gives students a valuable opportunity to experience life in another country with different customs and culture. It is also a good way to become independent. Homestay is an interesting option if you want to experience the family feel and immerse yourself in the everyday life of a Japanese family. The prices of a homestay in Tokyo are flexible. It may even be more attractive than a shared house because the cost of food is included in the price you will pay to your host family. As an international student in Tokyo, you will be entitled to 50% off the price of your transportation pass in Tokyo (teikiken). However, the pass only applies to the trip from your home to your university.

Going to a classical music concert, a rock concert, or a sumo wrestling competition is cheaper for students in Tokyo. For classical music, a ticket sold for 10,000 yen can be charged 10 times less for a student. For a concert, the price is often divided by 2. For sumo competitions, the discount is smaller - about a little less than 1000 yen than the basic price. These prices are given as an indication: they depend on the type of concert or cultural activity a student plans to attend.

South Korea

A student's typical daily routine consists of attending classes for 4 to 6 hours per day, with ample breaks in between where students visit cafes and restaurants, or so-called internet cafes to hang out with friends or gaming. Most students, both South Korean and international, live in goshiwon. Goshiwon are shared accommodation. Students sometimes have their own room, but sometimes share a room with up to four people. Students share a kitchen and sometimes a bathroom. Students need to carry some cash with them at street markets, as market stalls and street food vendors normally don’t take cards.

South Koreans are, by nature, extremely private. Any behaviour that isn’t private or orderly, like shouting or drunkenness, is frowned upon in South Korea. Politeness and gratitude are also core South Korean values, so expect to thank or be thanked no matter how small the service or gesture may be.  Places to visit are Namsan Tower/ Park, the highest point in Seoul.  They hold occasional afternoon traditional weapons and dance demonstrations that are free to watch and participate in. Also, visit the Mural Village where graffiti artists were commissioned to paint houses and streets for a town’s beautification project. The Han River is also a must visit tourist destination!  With occasion concerts and a perfect picnic spot, it’s a favorite hangout for locals and students alike. In Seoul, the cheapest and best way to get around is using their public transport, specifically their subway system.  To go on an hour subway ride and come back is around 3 USD.

Russia

Moscow is one of the world’s most important centers of economic and intellectual activity–a city where ancient, modern and future converge to provide foreigners with a dynamic mosaic of experiences that would be all but impossible to obtain in any other city. If you want to know how your professors amused themselves as children, pop into the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines and go back in time 30 years. Moscow Planetarium is one of the biggest in the world and the oldest planetarium in Russia. You can learn a lot about the history of astronomy and conquering the universe, set scientific experiments in the interactive museum, the Lunarium, see some of the oldest astronomical instruments and even touch real meteorites. Inside the planetarium you can visit the 4D space stereo cinema, pop into the hall of stars with moving seats, but the main attraction everyone comes here to see is the Sky Planetarium – the biggest cupola screen in Europe which makes you feel you can reach out and touch the stars. Home to some of the world’s most famed cultural figures from Dostoyevsky to Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, Plisetskaya and countless others, Russia has played a huge role in developing the global outlook on art forms like ballet, classical music, literature, and the fine arts. Trips to landmarks such as the Red Square, the Kremlin, the Golden Mountains of Altai amongst the 26 UNESCO sites are other exciting options. Student Social Card fees for the Moscow Metro and Moscow Central Circle are 470 RUB per month, while ground transport costs 300 RUB per month.
